It was a warm 86 degrees when ECU started the date in Huntington, West Virginia with the Thundering Herd of Marshall. The Pirates opening drive featured two receptions by Tyler Snead for 46 yards, and was capped off by a 24-yard touchdown pass from Holton Ahlers. Marshall later capitalized on and Pirate fumble when Grant Wells hit Willie Johnson for a 19 yard touchdown to give the Thundering Heard a 10-7 lead. This was the beginning of of a back and fourth half that ended with a 24-21 Marshall lead.

The second half started with ECU turning it over on down at the Marshall 37. The Herd built on their momentum when Rasheen Ali finished off the following drive with a 49-yard score, his third of the ball game. The herd lead 38-21, but the Pirates rallied back. Tyler Snead threw a touchdown to Ahlers on a throwback play to make it 38-35. The Pirates recovered an onside kick that set up the game winning touchdown run by Rahjai Harris. the game was capped off by an interception by Ja’Quan McMillian.

The Pirates move to 1-2 after their first win of the season. They play Charleston Sothern next week in Greenville as they look for 2 in a row.
