Heading into the 2023 season the ECU women’s Lacrosse team was looking to build off their best season in program history in 2022. In 2022 the Pirates had gone 9-9 with a league record of 2-3 which was good enough to quality for the conference tournament for the first time in program history.

The Pirates currently sit at 9-3 matching their win total from a season ago, but most importantly the Pirates are 2-0 in conference play. The Pirates went on the road to Old Dominion for their first AAC game and won a defensive slugfest 7-5. They backed it up with an impressive win over Vanderbilt in which they outscored the Commodores 7-2 in the 3rd quarter after being tied at halftime. The 15-10 victory makes ECU one of two teams still unbeaten in AAC play, and with only the top four teams qualifying for the conference tournament it can’t be over stated how important the hot start has been.

The Pirates have five more games this season four of which are against league opponents. This Saturday they host Cincinnati who currently sits at 2-1 half a game behind the Pirates for 2nd place.
