The Pirates traveled to Houston in hopes of rebounding back from a tough overtime loss against UCF. The Cougars of Houston came in on a 35 home game win streak. The Pirates seemed to still be shaken up after the UCF loss as the started slow and if didn’t get better. The number 10 Houston Cougars cruised to a 43 point victory, 79-36.

The Pirates started slow by missing their first five shots. The rest of the first half wasn’t much better. The Pirates shot 3-26 and had nine turnovers at the break. Houston took full advantage of the Pirates mistakes as they had 15 points off turnovers and were perfect from the free throw line. Tristian Newton was the one bright spot as he had 10 of the 14 Pirate points. The Cougars had a 44-14 led at the break. The Pirates biggest problem was only one second chance point on nine offensive rebounds.

The second half wasn’t much better for ECU as they only made 5 of their 24 second half shots. For the game the Pirates only made one three pointer and scored 19 of 36 points from the free throw line. The Pirates travel to Memphis on Thursday night and will look to get back in the win column. With this loss the Pirates fall to 11-7 (2-4) and are 8th in the AAC.
